early life epilepsy
SPECIAL INTEREST GROUP
The Early Life Epilepsy SIG is a national group of clinicians and scientists whose mission is to facilitate collaboration on projects to improve our understanding and care of children with early life epilepsy (age of onset < 3 years). The group is multidisciplinary including neurologists and epileptologists, as well as neuropsychologists and psychologists.
Our group meets on the first Monday of the month at 1 pm EST.

Donald J. Bearden, PhD, ABPP-CN, FAES, is Division Chief of Psychology and Behavioral Health at Le Bonheur Children's Hospital and Associate Professor of Pediatric Neurology at the University of Tennessee Health Science Center. His work focuses on pediatric epilepsy, neuropsychology, epilepsy surgery outcomes, and functional brain mapping. Within PERC, he serves as Co-Leader of the Early Life Epilepsy SIG, Co-Leader of the SEEG Mapping SIG, and Co-Leader of the Research Accelerator Mentorship Program.

Dr. Krista Eschbach is an Associate Professor at the University of Colorado School of Medicine. She is an attending epileptologist at Children’s Hospital Colorado providing medical care to children with epilepsy and EEG interpretation. She is the Associate Program Director for the Pediatric Epilepsy Fellowship at Children's Hospital Colorado. Dr. Eschbach received her medical degree from University of Colorado School of Medicine and completed Child Neurology Residency and Epilepsy Fellowship at the University of Colorado - Children’s Hospital Colorado. Dr. Eschbach recently completed a competitive research fellowship at the University of Colorado and is excited to apply the skills and knowledge gained to improving the care and outcomes for children with epilepsy.
